Mustard Seed [Jersey] is a small charity set up in Jersey, Channel Isles in 1998. It is run from the home of the founder and financed by donations mainly from Jersey people. Mustard Seed is autonomous and is NOT a branch of any of the larger Mustard Seed charities in UK or elsewhere. Mustard Seed Jersey runs its own projects, administers all funding, and when relief aid is taken overseas then it is arranged and funded by local volunteers..

Mustard Seed Jersey is run by volunteers. Many groups, businesses and individuals give very generous donations and discount for services and supplies. An army of volunteers work quietly in the background throughout the year, giving freely of time and resources to enable the charity to continue to function and make a difference to those in need.

The aim of the charity is to ease suffering in eastern Europe, by providing opportunities to enable people to become self-sufficient, through the taking of humanitarian aid, funding various projects and prayerfully supporting a number of projects.

Mustard Seed now focuses its work in 2 areas one in Romania and since the war in Ukraine and also assisting refugees in Romania.

In the Bihor county of Romania Mustard Seed has been working since the late 1990s deliberately choosing to work with small trusts and foundations, as we feel they are in the greatest need, often having no other help from the west. These Romanian trusts monitor the aid distribution on our behalf, and advise us on where the need is. Since the Ukrainian war Romania has received a high number of refugees from Ukraine and one of the main charities we support has an outreach to displaced Ukrainians in the area.

Mustard Seed volunteers visit Romania regularly to keep well up to date with what is happening with various projects and to identify new needs.

When the Ukraine war started, with the help and support of the Romanian social workers, Mustard Seed reached out to a contact in Ukraine in the Chernivtsi area which is close to the Romanian border. This church based trust assist many displaced Ukrainians who have fled from the war zone to the comparative safety of that area. Twice a month the Ukrainian trust volunteers travel to the war zone to take whatever aid they can to assist their fellow Ukrainians.

Mustard Seed volunteers visit Chernivtsi Ukraine when it is possible and keep in regular touch to ensure resources from Jersey are well used and to identify needs

Though the Romanians and Ukrainians are now the main beneficiaries, they are not the only ones. Some / most of the volunteers have made new friends and sometimes found new purpose in life through their volunteering
