Morning thought for Monday July 8th 2013
Good morning
It is sometimes very difficult to understand why God allows bad things
to happen. This was certainly a question we in Mustard Seed Jersey had to considerrecently, when for the first time in 17 years of
sending humanitarian aid consignments, our volunteer drivers were involved in
an accident in May.
Thankfully nobody was seriously injured, though one driver was in
hospital in France for 2 days. After the initial shock and disbelief we started
to be thankful, thankful there were no fatalities, that no injuries were life
threatening, thankful that in an estimated 100 aid trips and 4 million miles
driven this was the first time there had been an accident.
I don't have answers to the question Why does
God let bad things happen to good people? Anymore than I can answer why some
die young and why disasters happen. Many theologians have written much about
the subject and I certainly am no expert! But as an ordinary Christian I have
often asked God “Why this? Why that?”
To me the Divine Weaver poem has always been helpful. It talks about our
life being a weaving between God and us. It ends with
“Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why
The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver's skilful hand
As the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned”.
I am sure that one day, maybe not till after I die, I will finally
understand the good reason why God allowed some bad things to happen.
