Morning Thought 5 Friday January 13th 2012
Good morning. Just before Christmas, I returned from
distributing aid with Mustard Seed Jersey in Romania. Even after 15 years it
never ceases to amaze me how so often we find we do have the means to meet an unexpected need at
just the right time. I personally am convinced this is because we pray and ask
God’s assistance.
When we arrived at Maria’s house last month it was clear
she was pleased to see us but rather agitated. She asked if we could help her
oldest child a girl aged 11. She explained that her husband has begun to resent
the girl as she is not his biological daughter and Maria feared for her safety
if she stayed in their home.
Later that day the social worker found a suitable place
for the girl but funding was needed. By then I knew that Victoria College had
raised some money for Mustard Seed, so I was able to check with them whether
they would be happy for some of their money to be used to benefit this girl,
which they were. And so the arrangements were made.
There have been other times on this trip where we had
just the right resources at the right time to meet the unexpected need.
One of the Old Testament names of God is Jehovah Jireh – God my provider. I believe it is a privilege for us
in Mustard Seed to be used by God to provide for the needy and vulnerable. As
James puts it in his letter “Faith and actions work together”
