Morning thought

Very early on in my Christian life long before I had ever thought about Mustard Seed Jersey someone gave me some wise advice about Christian service which I have never forgotten – it was simply. “ find a need and fill it”

That advice of identifying needs and then working to meet those needs is very much the way that Mustard Seed Jersey operates.

It was at least 15 years ago when my late husband Phil was challenged about how one homeless man commented on his Wellington boots. He saw that the man was wearing sandals in the ice and snow in December. We did not have shoes available to give out that time. But much of the way driving back to Jersey from Romania Phil kept on mentioning how he had been moved by his encounter with the homeless man in sandals. He said he regretted not giving that man his own Wellington boots.

When we got back to Jersey we focussed or trying to meet not just that mans need fir waterproof boots but the many others too. So we appealed for Wellington boots and waterproof footwear which we were then able to send across to Romania.

I hope and I pray that Mustard Seed does respond as Jesus Christ himself would respond. It was St Theresa of Avila who said “Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks with compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”
