I shared with you a little about Mustard Seed Jersey’s Christmas shoebox distribution that we
were involved in last month.
I personally
have been involved in packing Christmas Shoeboxes for over 25 years. Very early
on I realized that if a child needs to receive a Christmas shoebox then without
doubt that that child needs support 52 weeks of the year. Out of that came our
response to start collecting and sending humanitarian aid throughout the year.
Without
doubt the need is greatest in the winter when as well as finding the resources
to purchase food people need winter fuel or firewood to prevent them freezing
to death.
Although
in general things are much better now than they were 25 years ago when I
started going to Romania there is still great need among the poorest of the poor.
It was
very rewarding to go into some of the poor homes to give out food parcels or
deliver Shoeboxes and feel that they were warm and to know that the money for
that firewood had come from Jersey. Thank you to those who gave
Can I
share some words of Jesus that I have found especially inspirational in
relation to my work with Mustard Seed Jersey.
Jesus said I was hungry, and you fed me. I was
thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into
your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me..’
37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see
you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and
show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?’
40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to
one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,[f] you were doing it to me!’
