Morning thought for Wednesday 18th
2016
Good morning. This is
my last morning -
tomorrow and Friday it will be Canon Geoff Houghton in his role as trustee of
The Shelter Trust presenting Morning Thought and telling of the need in this
island and how half the donated tins from the Tinathon
appeal will be used in Jersey.
The other half of the tins go to Romania. I have been to that
country countless times with Mustard Seed Jersey and always the distribution of
food is a high priority. One of the Romanian trusts we work with helps a number
of homeless people, taking food to where
they are sheltering and for a few giving them accommodation.
I ‘ve noticed when we assist families who have been evicted
and are huddling by the heating pipes or in holes in the ground, they are
desperate for long-term help with accommodation and employment as well as food.
It always brings a lump to my throat when we pack up the food
bags for the homeless. They don’t have access to cooking facilities, so no
flour, no pasta, etc. But tinned food will be just great.
And the people’s gratitude as you give them a bag of food –
it’s mind blowing. It sure helps put problems into perspective! Always reminds
me of the words of Jesus Christ “Whenever
you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you
did it to me.’
We will be at Wests Centre on Friday from 8 until 2.30,
waiting to receive the tins you want to donate. Do check they’re in date
through please! If you don’t want to come to town, there are also collection
bins at Waitrose and Holme Grown Farm Shop this month. In June there will be a
collection bin at the CoOp Grande Marche St Peter.
Have a good day and God bless you. I hope to see you on Friday
at Wests Centre. But whether we see you or not, please take a moment to be
thankful for the many good things we enjoy in this island. I am certain you
will find something good in your life for which you are grateful.
