Dear Praying Friends

Mustard Seed Jersey Prayer Update July 2007

ROMANIA – the TB concern:

I have recently had an email from Alex Stroie in Romania to give us the good news that no-one else in the girls’ apartment or Alex’s own family is affected by TB. Alex wrote “please say thanks to those who prayed for us”. He explained that as a further precaution the apartment must now be disinfected. MARIA from the girls’ apartment and FELICIA from our Project Relocate house are both making a good recovery. Please give thanks that nobody else is infected and remember Maria and Felicia in your prayers as they continue their recovery.

NEXT AID LORRY TO UKRAINE:

The trailer is fully packed and ready to go, but since the Ukraine charity asked us to cancel our planned dates, we have not yet found replacement drivers. Please remember this in your prayers.

PENSIONERS’ HOUSE IN CEFA ROMANIA

As you may remember we are aiming to raise £65,000 to build a home for needy pensioners. Our first target was to pay for the architect’s fees and we give thanks to God that we have just sent that money (about 3% of the total needed). Our next target is to raise the money needed for laying the foundations which will be £5,000 – we hope to lay the foundations in the autumn before the first frosts. After that – ideally early in 2008 - our aim is to place the order and purchase the materials for the wooden house as soon as we have sufficient money (with prices rising in Romania we want to buy as soon as we can).  God willing we hope to have raised the needed funding to start building in the autumn of 2008. We hope that a team from Jersey will go over to help with the building.

Because of the good relationship with the authorities who are grateful for what we do in the community we do not expect major problems with obtaining planning permission, but please do hold this need in prayer, as Alex aims to get it resolved within the next couple of months. Please remember this project in your prayers and pray that God will grant us favour in our fund-raising and establish this home in Romania for homeless pensioners. Psalm 91 v 17.

GIZZELA is a seriously disabled elderly pensioner who has been supported by Mustard Seed for the last 5 years. During the summer last year the family who were looking after her turned against her and threw her out so she was literally sleeping in the courtyard under a shelter made of branches and plastic sheeting Thankfully when the winter started another family took her into their home.

In the spring/summer this year we were able to give her a garden shed to live in. She was and is pathetically grateful for the shed and quite thrilled with it. It eases pressure on the family who had taken her into their one room mud-brick house, they are still cooking for her and helping her. Please remember Gizzela in your prayers and others in similar situations.

Please pray we in Mustard Seed will know the wisest and best way to use the resources we have to ease suffering.

HOLIDAY CAMP

You may recall that in the May prayer update I asked for your prayers for Nelu and raising funds for the holiday club he wanted to run for under-privileged Romanian children with whom he is working. We have been able to send him over sufficient funds for 11 needy young people to go to camp, which means that those most in need will be able to go. The camp is later this month.

KATHY LANGSTON

We have heard from Kathy that she has moved successfully in the city of Oradea, Romania and is thrilled with her new ground floor apartment. What delights her most is that her foster daughters can go outside safely as there is a small secure courtyard where they can play – this is a huge improvement on a 5th floor apartment with no garden or safe play area. Kathy says she believes this is God’s provision for them.

PRAYER FOR HEALING IN JERSEY:

It has been encouraging to hear from Alex that he has asked his congregations in Romania to pray for various Jersey volunteers and supporters who have been sick. Please join them in prayer for God’s healing for  BARRY, also for CAROL-ANN, who is making an excellent recovery after surgery. There are a number of others affected by viruses at the time of writing.
